Interesting Tidbits: This plant is endangered across its range. It prefers moist deciduous woods and streambanks. It is called heart leaved, although in the northeast part of its range, it may have fewer leaves than it does further south. Plantwise recommends it as an excellent replacement groundcover for the destructive, invasive Garlic Mustard (Alliaria petiolata). (Wildflower Center, LBJ) Garden Uses: Foam flower is an early bloomer like many shade loving perennials, and has evergreen leaves that are often quite hairy, and sometimes have discreet purple flecks. Foam flower usually lives in moist or wet woodland areas, however in gardens, it seems to tolerate a wide variety of moisture levels. It is happy in light to deep shade. It spreads very well, and can create a wonderfully weed free and successful groundcover occupying large areas. It is a very showy for a woodland perrenial, with delicate foamy white bottle brush shaped flowers. It is one of the most useful and beautiful plants in a woodland garden. (Evergreen)
