This sedge grows well in hardwood forests (containing oak and maple etc.). It has a slight preference for acidic soil. (Flora of North America)

Habitat Information: Low growing sedge works as groundcover in dry, shady areas, and does well also in full sun. Leaves fine, seedheads purplish and come up in the spring. Sedges look like grasses, but have trangular rather than round stems in cross section. They are drought tolerant and easy to start from seed. (Johnson, L., The new Ontario Naturalized Garden, 1999)
