Abronia is from abros, the Greek for 'graceful' or 'delicate'.
Abronia latifolia grows on sandy sea beaches from the Queen Charlotte Island (Haida Gwaii)south. Pink sand-verbena is similar to yellow sand verbena but has pink flowers.
Yellow sand verbena usually occurs with other typical sand beach species such as large headed sledge, seashore bluegrass, beach carrot and beach bindweed.
This plant grows from a deep taproot spreading stems up to 1 or 2 metres long eventually forming a mat with short stems upon which the bright yellow flowers grow.(E-Flora BC and Burke Museum)
It grows infrequently on the Queen Charlotte Islands, Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. (E-Flora BC)
