This species is characterised by a lot of basal leaves. Seeds are food for birds and small mammals in Winter. (Conn. Botanical Society) Pollinated by solitary bees like (Adrena) the solitary mining bee and(Colletes)the cellophane bee, who both make their nests in the ground.(David Suzuki Foundation) Goldenrods are thought by some to cause hayfever, but this is not true, ragweed is the common culprit. Goldenrod can be very aggressive and spread easily. Plants can also be started from seeds after a cold stratification period, or by dividing plants in spring or fall.
