Very adaptable, hardy. Called Ironweed due to its tough fibrous stem. Garden Uses: ""Purple fans take note: the vivid flower clusters of ironweed appear from August through October on stems that grow from 3 to 7 feet. It does best in moist to average soil, and attracts butterflies. The tawny, fuzzy seedheads are attractive in autumn and winter, and provide food for the birds.""
