Native Range: Europe, Russia Invasive Range: SK,AB,BC,MN,ON,QC,NS,NF,YT,NWT Time of Invasion: Introduced in 1915 Invasion Pathway: Introduced and used as fodder and for revegetation of rangelands (Royal BC Museum - Living Landscapes). Has become the dominant species in areas of introduction (White et. al.). Status: Crowds out the endangered species Slender mouse-ear-cress. Has taken over two known Slender mouse-ear-cress sites in Alberta and Saskatchewan (White et. al.). Recommended Mode of Removal: Shear - cut stems close to ground level. (Canadian Bot. Conservation Net) Crested wheat grass can be distinguished from other Agropyron species in the field by its widely spreading spikelet (>30 degrees from the stem axis).
