Interesting Tidbits
Rhizomatous turf-forming with pale-green arching leaves. Forms ground cover in forest or savannah (oak/pine or sugar maple) Prefers light-textured soils. Resistant to deer grazing. (Ontario Native Plants 2002) This sedge grows well in hardwood forests (containing oak and maple etc.). It has a slight preference for acidic soil. (Flora of North America) It can tend to form ground cover in ideal circumstances. (Wild Flower Centre) Habitat Information: Low growing sedge works as groundcover in dry, shady areas, and does well also in full sun. Leaves fine, seedheads purplish and come up in the spring. Sedges look like grasses, but have trangular rather than round stems in cross section. They are drought tolerant and easy to start from seed. (Johnson, L., The new Ontario Naturalized Garden, 1999)
