Interesting Tidbits
Leaves, twigs and catkins are browsed by deer, moose and small mammals. Nuts as tasty as commercial filberts, are also eaten by wildlife. Beaver eat the bark. This is a good shrub to grow in naturalized areas. It is hardy and can be pruned at any time. Although enjoying rich moist loamy soil, it can adapt to dryer areas too.
